Priti backs independent deterrent to defend freedom and democracy
Witham MP Priti Patel has spoken in support of Britain’s independent nuclear deterrent capabilities during a debate in the House of Commons. It has been fifty years since the continuous at sea nuclear deterrent became operational and during the debate Priti stated: “When we speak about freedom, our independent at sea deterrent has been one of the most important factors in securing freedom and democracy around the word.”
Commenting afterwards Priti said:
“Our independent nuclear deterrent has been at the cornerstone of our nation’s defence safeguarding freedom and democracy in Britain. For fifty years brave service personnel have been at sea keeping us safe and ensuring that our country is safe from the most hostile and dangerous threats. In an uncertain and changing world it is essential that we continue to invest in our deterrent to defend our country and national interests.”
