Priti calls for call-in on Incinerator plans
Witham MP Priti Patel has asked the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to exercise his powers to call-in the current planning application for the Rivenhall Incinerator. Speaking in the House of Commons [28 January 2019], Priti highlighted to the Secretary of State that the original planning decision was approached by the last Labour Government in 2010 but new planning applications made for the site gives grounds for it to be called-in. Priti, who met with residents and campaigners opposing the Incinerator on Thursday [24 January 2019], said:
“Local communities across this part of Essex and beyond stand opposed to the incinerator. Its size and scale is obscene and we are deeply concerned about the environmental impact of the incinerator and all the many vehicles travelling to and from it each week. Last week I met with residents and campaigners opposed to the Incinerator who are fighting hard to get the latest planning application refused.”
“The Secretary of State could not comment on my request in answer to my question due to the quasi-judicial nature of his role. But having already written to him about this previously I hope that today’s question reiterates to him the importance of this application being called-in and refused.”
