Priti drops in on Breast Cancer Now fundraiser in Tolleshunt Major
The MP for Witham, Priti Patel, has called in on a Breast Cancer Now afternoon tea fundraiser at the St Nicholas Village Hall, Tolleshunt Major. The event on Friday 23rd June 2023, was aimed at raising funds for the charity which provides support for breast cancer victims and cancer research. It was supported by 40 guests who each paid £7.50 for a full afternoon tea including homemade cakes, savouries and sandwiches.
All the cakes served were made locally by volunteers and the event was dedicated to a local volunteer who herself has sadly passed away from Breast Cancer.
During her visit, Priti met the volunteers behind the event, took tea with some of the local residents and enjoyed sampling a small selection of the homemade cakes.
Priti, commenting after her visit said: “I was delighted to be able to drop into Breast Cancer Now’s fundraising tea party. It was a pleasure to meet the local volunteers who have worked so hard to raise much needed funds for this excellent charity. Cancer remains the toughest of diagnoses to face up to and those who have to deal with it, along with their families, need the support of organisations like Breast Cancer now.”
Local organiser Gill Payne said: “We had a very successful afternoon tea, raising just over £600. We very much appreciated Priti’s donation and that she took time out of her day, to call in.”
