Priti Patel salutes the Red Lion’s local hero landlady
On Friday (22nd October) the Witham MP, Priti Patel paid a flying visit to the Red Lion public house in Newland Street, Witham to meet landlady Dee Hayes. Priti was keen to meet her having heard about Dee’s efforts to support the local community during the pandemic. While she was there, Priti presented her with a local hero certificate.
Priti said: “At the beginning of the pandemic, Dee closed her pub earlier than was required by law, to protect her customers. She made sure to keep in touch with potentially vulnerable customers, even while her pub was closed. Dee cooked and delivered roast lunches and dinners to those who were shielding. For these and many other services to the community, I was delighted to meet her and present her with a small acknowledgement of her hard work and commitment to the people of Witham.
“She is a true local hero.”
