Priti welcomes Minister’s comments on offshore grid development
Witham MP Priti Patel welcomed the comments made by energy networks minister Andrew Bowie MP in the House of Commons regarding the development of an offshore grid instead of over 100 miles of pylons and overhead powerlines in the East of England. Speaking during questions to energy ministers in the House of Commons, Priti reiterated the objections and concerns local communities have with the plans for pylons. In reply the minister highlighted that he had visited the region last week, met with local campaigners and that all options continue to be on the table including an offshore grid. Priti said:
“Communities across the whole of the East of England are concerned about the National Grid’s plans for over 100 miles of new pylons and overhead cables across our countryside. I am pleased that the minister has visited the region, met with campaigners and remains open to the development of an offshore grid instead of new pylons. I will continue to make the case for an offshore grid and for our countryside to be protected from new pylons.”
