Priti Patel MP leads assembly at Silver End Academy
Witham MP, Priti Patel, has today (23rd May) led the morning assembly at the Silver End Academy, with a presentation on the scourge of plastic waste. Ms Patel is working with the Sky Ocean Rescue campaign to engage with local schools in her constituency to raise awareness of the problem of plastic waste getting into our local environment and oceans.
Priti said: “I am seeking to engage and inspire young people to take action to reduce plastic consumption and help conserve oceans and marine life for future generations. The pupils have shown great initiative in their own work to look at ways they too can help to reduce plastic waste and consumption. I have also launched a competition for the most original idea, with the winners to be announced on 28th June.”
Following the assembly Priti met with Year 5 pupils who have written a letter to her and the Prime Minister calling on more support to support the environment. She and the pupils discussed their own suggestions on how we can work together to reduce the amount of plastic being generated. Pupils were also presented with a Sky Ocean Rescue reusable water bottle and a fact sheet providing key information on the importance of our oceans and why they are in danger.
