Witham MP Priti Patel recently visited the Royal Mail delivery office in Colchester to meet with David Gold, Director of Public Policy and the local Royal Mail leadership team to discuss the ongoing issues and situation with delivery of post to certain postcodes in the Colchester area.

Having initially been contacted by a number of constituents who have been impacted by delays with delivery of post to their homes, Priti has repeatedly pressed Royal Mail on the matter so that the regular six day per week service that people rightly expected is restored. The delays to people’s post has caused serious concern for many constituents, in some cases even resulting in people missing doctor or hospital appointments. During the visit Priti raised these concerns and sought assurances from Royal Mail that they are addressing the issues causing these delays with deliveries, so that moving forward post is arriving in a timely manner to constituents.

Speaking after the meeting Priti said: “I would like to thank Royal Mail for meeting with me and listening to the serious cases I have raised with them on behalf of my constituents. It is very concerning for residents when their post does not turn up on time, particularly when it relates to someone’s health and doctor or hospital appointments. I have pressed Royal Mail on their plans to turn things around and ensure these issues impacting delivery of mail six days per week are resolved. I have been assured that they are doing everything to make sure that residents receive their post on time, and I will continue to work with the residents impacted and hold Royal Mail to account on their performance.”
