Priti and residents meet with ECC to raise ‘very real safety concerns’ on Bullford Mill Lane
Priti Patel, local MP for the Witham constituency, met with members of Cressing Parish Council and local residents of the village to discuss the longstanding and ongoing road safety issues relating to Bulford Mill Lane.
This very narrow stretch of lane that leads through to Black Notley, is the scene of frequent flooding and accidents. Local residents are understandably concerned with the volume of traffic using the road, and the potential safety implications for motorists as well as pedestrians, as in July alone there were two incidents.
During the meeting, there was agreement the road is totally unsuitable for large vehicles to use, which at times have caused damage to some of the properties along the road, and Priti is committed to supporting the community and raising the concerns with Essex County Council and Highways. Priti, who has a long track record of supporting local communities with road safety issues, was steadfast in her support for residents and homeowners who are being impacted by these ongoing issues.
Priti said: “I would like to thank Cressing Parish Council and local residents for organising this meeting to discuss the very real safety concerns on Bulford Mill Lane, and for Cllr Tom Cunningham from Essex County Council for attending and providing an update on the situation. The damage that heavy goods vehicles is doing to homes and the lack of safety measures to reduce incidents is concerning. The speed limit reduction and traffic calming measures proposals submitted via the Local Highways Panel (LHP) will hopefully be a step in the right direction in addressing this issue, whilst longer-term solutions to divert traffic away from the road can be planned.”
