Witham Carnival Queen 2019 is crowned
Witham MP, Priti Patel was present today (6th July) alongside the Town Mayor, Cllr Clare Lager, for the crowning of the Witham Senior Carnival Queen 2019, Cailey Hackett, and her 2019 Princesses Emma Hopgood and Bella Currie, which took place at a special ceremony in the Grove Centre shopping precinct. Also forming part of the 2019 court are Junior Queen, Ruby Martin, Junior Princesses Farrah Lipscombe and Angelica Hackett (sister of the Senior Carnival Queen) and Rosebud Queen Freya Webster. The Senior Carnival Queen, and her court will be leading the Witham Carnival Parade, which takes place on Saturday 13th July.
Priti said: “I was delighted to be here for the crowning, which is really the start of this year’s Carnival, a superb event that really brings our community together and this is a special year, as it marks the Carnival’s 90th anniversary. Cailey and her court will add a nice touch of royalty to the proceedings not just here but at a wide variety of summer carnival engagements across the home counties.”
“I would like to thank the Witham Carnival Association for the hard work they are doing in advance of the big day. They are all volunteers and do a tremendous job in organising a complex operation and, in the process, raising money for local charities.”
This year’s Witham Carnival Parade will feature a 4 metre tall puppet made by local volunteers, as part of a community project.
