Ely Junction rail investment welcomed by Priti
Witham MP Priti Patel has welcomed the Government announcing that it will be committing to investing in upgrading Ely Junction. Priti, along with fellow MPs from the East of England, has been a longstanding campaigner for the upgrading of Ely Junction to enable more passenger and freight trains to run through Ely to improve capacity, reliability and journey times. The upgrade of Ely Junction has been one of the key investment projects to improve rail services that the Great Eastern Main Line Rail Taskforce has pressed the Government to commit to.
Priti, who was a founder member and former chair of the Taskforce, said: “I welcome the Government committing to invest in upgrading Ely Junction. The improvement this will bring to capacity and reliability will be beneficial to the rail network across the East of England and will support economic growth by boosting rail freight. We have campaigned with businesses for the last decade and it is great that the Government has listened to the robust case we have put forward and is now committing the investment needed.”
Commenting on other transport investment schemes announced by the Government, Priti added: “The Government has promised more investment in transport infrastructure across the country including in the East of England. With more money for road repairs, potholes and major projects, I will be continuing to lobby the Government for Essex to get its fair share so we can benefit from this new investment.”
