Priti Patel MP reviews Tiptree’s deteriorating roads
The Member of Parliament for the Witham Constituency, Priti Patel, has reviewed key roads in Tiptree to inspect some of the more dangerous areas where potholes, deteriorating road surfaces and faded markings are causing safety problems for motorists, motorbike riders and cyclists.
On Sunday (3rd April) Priti inspected the road surface on and around the junction of Maldon Road and Great Braxted Road, where large areas have badly deteriorated. She inspected the pothole on the Maldon Road near the entrance to Station Road, which has extended well out towards the centre of the road. She was also shown the deteriorating pavements near the Factory Shop and the holes in the road on the adjacent roundabout, as well as similar issues in Church Road near the mini-roundabout by Tesco. Priti particularly asked to see Rectory Road, which has a very bad surface in places.
After her tour, Priti said: “Constituents have rightly raised with me a number of road safety concerns and highlighted several deteriorating roads in Tiptree which is why I have reviewed many of the local roads myself. Having done so, I can see why local constituents are so concerned. There are some really bad areas that cannot be allowed to deteriorate any further and need to be tackled ASAP. I would like to see some extensive fixing of potholes, resurfacing and the repainting of white lines at junctions and pedestrian crossings.
“I will be in contact with Essex County Council and the Highways Department to have this work prioritised. I want to see these repairs moving up the agenda. I would like to see the roads in Tiptree made much safer and more resilient. There is no point in carrying out road repairs that deteriorate in a few months.”
