4 year-old Acorn Academy pupil claims top prize in MP’s Christmas card design competition
Priti Patel, the MP for Witham, has today (3rd December 2021) called in to Acorn Academy in Witham to present prizes to the winner and two runners up, in the MP’s own annual Christmas card competition for 2021.
The MP received more than 70 entries for her competition, from seven schools across the Witham constituency. At a special prize-giving assembly, hosted by Headteacher, Claire Jaques, Priti presented Alfie Hearne, aged 4 with a winner’s certificate, a trophy, a special prize from the House of Commons gift shop and a printed copy of his winning entry. Two runners up, Louie Cullum, aged 7 and Oliver Stephenson, aged 4, received trophies, certificates and a printed copy of the winning Christmas card entry, which has their entries printed on the back. Priti also provided special Christmas goodie bags for all three of the competition winners.
During the assembly, every pupil who entered the competition received a certificate from Priti confirming their participation.
Priti said: “Once again, I had a lot of entries of a high standard submitted this year, which made it doubly difficult for me to choose just one winner. Alfie’s was a very strong and colourful entry, which couldn’t fail to catch my eye. He may well be an artist in the making! My thanks to all the children who took part and to the staff, who encouraged them.”
Claire Jaques, Headteacher at Acorn Academy, said: “We all very much appreciate Priti finding the time to be with us today to present the winner’s prize, the trophies, and the certificates. The children were also delighted to be able to sing one of their favourite Christmas songs to Priti, as part of the assembly.”
