Vaisakhi is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar
Vaisakhi is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar.
The auspicious festival is celebration of faith and courage. It is a significant moment as it also commemorates 1699, the year Sikhism was established as a collective faith. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, chose Vaisakhi as the occasion to transform the Sikhs into a family of soldier saints, known as the Khalsa Panth. Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded the Khalsa in front of thousands at Anandpur Sahib.
Gurdwaras across Britain will be preparing to mark the birth of Khalsa and this is also a time for us to celebrate the special contribution the Sikh community has made to British life. Through hard work and entrepreneurial spirit, Sikhs have made a tremendous impact within Britain and continue to make our country prosper.
I will be joining in the celebrations with friends and family and I look forward to seeing Gurdwaras decorated with flowers and offerings, and the vibrant processions that will take place in the streets.
Happy Vaisakhi
