Police take action to protect children from dangerous drivers after Priti raises concerns
Priti Patel, the Member of Parliament for Witham, was pleased to see that after she raised serious concerns about road safety at Tiptree Heath Primary School, Essex police and the Safer Roads Partnership were recently (21st November) undertaking speed checks. The police in partnership with the school educated drivers by allowing pupils to speak to them about the dangers they are posing to the children, parents, and staff at the school.
Back in October, Priti witnessed first-hand a number of issues, including speeding vehicles, drivers ignoring the school crossing patrol officer and vehicles driving on the edge of the narrow pathway as children were walking past.
Following the most recent incident at the start of October, where a parent was hit by a lorry outside of the school, Priti was pleased that her swift action has led to this proactive enforcement by Essex Police.
Priti said: “Last month I raised concerns with the police over speeding and the lack of road safety measures outside Tiptree Heath Primary School. It is encouraging to see Essex Police and the Safer Roads Partnership outside the school undertaking speed checks.
Speeding outside Tiptree Heath Primary School is unacceptable. The safety of children, parents and staff must come first which is why I want to see road safety and traffic enforcement measures in this area.”
