Priti slams National Grid pylon plans in Parliament
Witham MP Priti Patel has slammed National Grid’s plans to cover the countryside in the East of England with metal pylons and overhead powerlines. Speaking in the House of Commons, Priti called on the recently appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho MP, to meet with MPs from the region and consider an offshore grid alternative. In response, the Secretary of State agreed to consider the matter and meet with MPs from the region.
Priti said: “The National Grid’s ill thought through pylon plans have caused anger and frustration across the East of England. They have sought to blight our landscapes and environments but local communities have united to oppose these plans and put forward an offshore grid alternative. The Secretary of State must listen to local concerns and I look forward to meeting her and discussing this important issue.”
