Priti Patel brings major employers and local students together at her annual Careers Fair
Following the success of her re-established Career’s Fair, which took place in July 2022, the Witham MP, Priti Patel, has held a larger event with more international and local employers in attendance at Maltings Academy on Friday 24th March 2023.
The Fair was sponsored by Stansted Airport, working in conjunction with the Essex Chambers of Commerce, Witham Industrial Watch and Maltings Academy. The Fair was attended by more than 500 students from year 10 from Maltings Academy, Rickstones Academy and Thurstable School and some 60 from years 12 and 13 at Witham Sixth Form. The generous sponsorship by Stansted Airport enabled students to travel from other local schools to attend the Fair.
Students were able to meet and discuss career prospects with employers from a range of international, national and Essex based businesses as well as a wide range of organisations involved in careers and skills development.
Exhibitors at the Fair included Airbus Defence & Space, Stansted Airport, the British Army, DP World London Gateway, BAE Systems, International Search & Rescue, Essex Fire & Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service, Simarco Worldwide Logisitics, Essex Police, Tarmac Trading Ltd, ACL Essex, AIM Group, Anglia Ruskin School of Medicine, Colchester Institute, Writtle University College, South Essex College, Holmes & Hills, Essex Business Machines, TEXO DSI and Eastlight Community Homes.
Priti met with every exhibitor at the Fair and welcomed their commitment to supporting local students with their professional career development and future employment opportunities.
Speaking after the Fair, Priti said: “I have held a number of careers fairs over the last decade because I believe that local students should have every chance to access many of the incredible employment opportunities that are on our doorstep. Essex has thousands of international, national and local businesses but too often local students have few opportunities to meet these employers directly to find out more about what is open to them and how to develop a career. My careers fairs are all about bringing some of Britain’s best employers together to inspire and encourage local students about how they can fulfil their potential.”
“I would like to give my personal thanks to the outstanding Head of Maltings Academy, Sherry Zand, for hosting and organising the event, to Essex Chambers of Commerce and to Stansted Airport for their sponsorship this year.
“My annual Career’s Fair will continue to be a springboard for young people in the Witham Constituency, toward their future careers or further education, so that they get the best possible start in life.”
Sherry Zand, Head Teacher at Maltings Academy said: said: “It has been a pleasure to once again work with Priti and her team to make this event a reality. The Careers Fair continues to grow and expand its scope. It provides a hugely important opportunity for local students to meet and talk to an impressive range of employers and providers, ahead of the key decisions they need to make about their futures, in the forthcoming year.”
