Remembrance Day Parade for the fallen is led by Witham MP
The Witham MP, Priti Patel, was one of the leading marchers in the Remembrance Day Parade in the Town on Sunday (13th November 2022). Alongside Simon Brice, the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, the Town’s Mayor, Cllr Jack Bayford, and the Chairman of the Witham Branch of the Royal British Legion, Bob Walker, she led the ceremonial parade to the War Memorial in Witham.
The parade and the ceremony that followed were attended by some 2,000 Witham residents, representatives from all the armed forces and emergency services. It began by the roundabout at the top of The Avenue and proceeded through Collingwood Road to Newland Street, where it turned left and ended in front of the War Memorial. A service, presided over by the Rev. Dr Jonathan Pritchard, Rector of the Witham and Villages Team Ministry, was held, during which local dignitaries including Priti, the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex and the Mayor laid wreaths to the fallen, on behalf of Witham and Braintree.
Priti said: “It is always an honour for me to take part in the ceremonies in Witham on Remembrance Sunday. It is so very important to remember the immense sacrifices that members of our armed forces have made for us over the years in conflicts all around the world. In many cases they paid the ultimate price and we should never forget them or the sacrifices they and their families made.”
In a further tribute, a wooden memorial on behalf of those from the Witham constituency who did not come home from conflicts was planted in the Speaker’s Garden at the Palace of Westminster this week.
