Priti Patel supports Copford Primary School’s efforts to find funding for classroom upgrades
Priti Patel, the Member of Parliament for Witham, has today (28.02.20) visited Copford Church of England Primary School, to see for herself the problems the school is having in regard to the deteriorating condition of four of its classrooms. Priti met Headteacher David Bome, who explained how leaking roofs, damp, mould and uneven floors are making the classrooms unfit for use.
Priti has already made representations to Essex County Council to press for capital funding to be released to replace the classrooms and urgently improve conditions for pupils and staff at the school.
Commenting after her visit, Priti said: “It is quite clear from my own observations that this project is urgent and cannot wait. The classrooms are in a poor state and we should not expect young children use these sub-standard facilities. I have pressed Essex County Council to urgently address this issue and I will continue to urge them to provide the funding required to deliver the necessary building improvements at the school.”
Headteacher David Bome said: “I am grateful to Priti for her support and for the opportunity to show her the extent of the issues and the pressing need to update our building. Priti has already made representations on our behalf and I look forward to continuing to work with her to secure the investment we need.”
