Priti calls on Council to refuse Drakes Lane application
Local MP Priti Patel has called on Chelmsford City Council’s Planning Committee to refuse a planning application for nine Traveller pitches on a site in Drakes Lane. The site is located next to an industrial estate and isolated from services and facilities, including schools and GP surgeries. Despite the application failing to meet local and national planning criteria, the report to be considered by Councillors on Tuesday (4 December 2018) recommends granting the application permission. Priti, who has been supporting businesses affected and attended a public meeting in Boreham in September, said:
“This development is wholly inappropriate and unsuitable for this area. The site is next to an industrial estate where some of my constituents work and there are no other homes in the immediate vicinity. The lack of services nearby will make the site unsuitable for families who will live there while the nature of the road and the presence of heavy goods vehicles raise serious safety concerns.”
“I have been lobbying the Council to reject this application and have made a further request to the Planning Committee to reject this ill-thought through scheme.”
