Swimming pool investment makes a splash

Local MP Priti Patel has welcomed the announcement of £375,350 for Witham Leisure Centre as part of the Swimming Pool Support Fund.

The Leisure Centre will receive £375,350 to deliver improvements in their energy efficiency through the use of photo voltaic (PV) panels, and replacing existing fluorescent lighting with LED lamps. Operating costs of swimming pools and leisure facilities has increased recently, and the funding helps ensure access to facilities and make swimming more accessible for people of all ages.

The grants provided through the support fund, which range in size from £3,000 to nearly £1m, have helped to fund projects and support swimming pools and leisure centres across the country. The money comes from the £60.5 million Phase II of the Swimming Pool Support Fund (SPSF), and has been split between 325 pools from more than 260 local authorities.

This is the latest round of funding provided to Witham Leisure Centre, which is managed by Fusion Lifestyle. Previous funding via the Home Office Safer Streets programme, established by Priti during her time as Home Secretary, has helped provide free self-defence classes, and recently a community garden area funded through the Shared Prosperity Fund opened as well.

Priti responding to the announcement said: “I welcome this latest funding for Witham Leisure Centre, which will help deliver significant energy efficiency improvements for the building, and I am pleased that local residents will be able to have even better facilities. Witham Leisure Centre has received a significant level of investment through government projects to support community facilities.”
